Everything You Need To Know About Scalp Micro-pigmentation

Scalp Micro-pigmentation (SMP), also known as medical hair tattoo is an innovative non-surgical hair loss solution to treat all types of hair loss. Our technicians implant organic carbon black pigments into the scalp with specialised devices to create thousands of tiny impressions to replicate the look of natural hair follicles. The result will appear as if your head is full of hair shaven to a very short length, like a short buzz cut. If your hair is thinning but you don’t want to shave your head, we can also create the appearance of thicker, fuller hair by reducing the contrast between the skin on your scalp and the existing hair. SMP can also be a very effective method to conceal hair treatment or surgical scars.

How does scalp micro-pigmentation work? What to expect?

At least 3-4 cosmetic pigmentation sessions are required to achieve the desired effect. Each session lasts 2-5 hours depending on the surface of scalp to be covered. Sessions need to be at least 1 week apart to let your skin heal from the procedure and have the pigments settle in. Our SMP practitioners will work on the whole area to be covered during each session and will repeat the process during the following sessions until the result looks satisfying. The colour will get gradually darker after each session while keeping a natural look. We advise the first 2 sessions to be done within 2 weeks as the outcome of the first session will be quite light to mostly check how your skin assimilates the pigment so that the colour shades can be refined during the subsequent SMP sessions. You might notice some redness right after the treatment but it will disappear within a few hours. Most clients undergo the procedure without any local anaesthetics and feel some discomfort but no pain during the procedure. If you find it too painful, we will be apply a numbing cream on your scalp to reduce the pain.

How long does it last? Does it fade?

Once your treatment is complete (3-4 sessions), you can expect the SMP results to last 3-5 years before it begins to slowly fade without any discoloration. If you desire to keep your SMP look “fresh”, you can schedule a touch-up session to refresh the results. Depending on your preferences, you may also decide to lower the hairline or slightly change its shape during that top-up session.

SMP for Men

Right now, there is no permanent solution for hair loss. However, now we have a long term solution that gives the patient the illusion of more hair. Brisbane Hair Clinic is a one-of-its-kind hair loss treatment solution that is guaranteed to show results. It has shown positive results for both men, and women that were suffering from extensive hair loss.

As we get older, the more likely we are to experience male pattern hair loss. The first signs of Male Pattern Baldness are a receding hairline, and thinning hair around the crown of the head. Men of all ages have found SMP as their comprehensive solution for hair loss. SMP replaces the lost density, resulting in the appearance of an even, full head of hair. With this specialised approach, we treat the front hairline, and let it blend into density with a natural look. The SMP procedure may take 2 to 3 sessions to achieve the patient’s desired look. However, it is very simple, and fast procedure; that is proven to boost your confidence.

SMP for Women

It’s no secret that men go bald. However, there are numerous women who suffer from hair loss all over the world. Brisbane Hair Clinic is here to help you get your confidence back.

If you’re a female, and losing hair, don’t wait any longer! The SMP procedure is the ideal hair loss treatment for women who are suffering from hair thinning across the crown, or top area of the head. Look in the mirror, and part your hair, does the “hair part” seem to show more scalp than usual? That’s okay, SMP can add density to your scalp, giving the illusion of a thicker, fuller head of hair. SMP can help females suffering from alopecia and post-surgery scars. Using a scalp micro-pigmentation that blends the hairline and scalp for the most natural look, it is virtually undetectable.
